Jon Stewart mocked FBI Director Kash Patel during his drunken celebration with members of the US men’s hockey team after their Olympic gold on Sunday.
Footage airs of people celebrating America’s second hockey medal of the Games during Monday’s episode of “The Daily Show,” the comedian paused on the viral clip of the FBI director in the locker room with Team USA.
“There’s nothing that can take away this joyful moment that all Americans celebrate… Wait, what the hell? Is that FBI Director Kash Patel? Why are they hanging a medal around the FBI Director’s neck?” Stewart exclaimed.
“Is Kash Patel a Make-a-Wish… Man? Child? Is that what this is?” he teased.
“I’m not trying to diminish his condition,” Stewart continued before showing a photo of Patel with an apparently shocked expression. “There is currently no cure for crazy eyes.”
After CBS reports this last Thursday that Patel had flown to the Olympics on an FBI plane at taxpayer expense, FBI spokesman Ben Williamson insisted in a statement X message that Patel’s flight to Europe was “not a personal journey.”
“Director Patel is on a trip that was planned months ago. It includes: partner meetings with Italian law enforcement and security officials (they invited the director last July), meeting with Ambassador Fertitta (following our law enforcement roundtable he hosted in January), meetings with Legat staff, and more,” he wrote.
Williamson accused MS NOW of false reporting about the FBI director.
“Your rag shop wrote that [Patel] hung out at the Olympics on the taxpayer’s dime – even when he got information that your theory was false. If you’re ready to correct that, let me know,” Williamson wrote in a message to MS NOW reporter Ken Dilanian X message on Saturday. “I’m not holding my breath.”
Patel defended his subsequent performance at the Olympics with beer drinking in one X message on Sunday after the game.
“To the very concerned media: yes, I love America and I was beyond humbled when my friends, the newly minted gold medalists from Team USA, invited me into the locker room to celebrate this historic moment with the boys,” he wrote. “The greatest country in the world and the greatest sport in the world.”
