House Judiciary Committee Ranking Member Rep. Jamie Raskin (D-MD) has been an outspoken critic of Pam Bondi and the Trump DOJ, and has sought to bring accountability to the Justice Department.
Raskin has spoken to Bondi during hearings, and the constitutional scholar made it clear he was disgusted by what she did to the Justice Department at Donald Trump’s direction.
Rep. Raskin had a lot to say after Bondi was fired by Trump:
TToday, President Trump fired Attorney General Pam Bondi, ending a term that will go down in history as a profound betrayal not only of the Department of Justice, but of the American people for whom the Department exists. For the record, the DOW was under 50,000.
The attorney general has the best law job in America. The mission is justice, and the customers are the American people. But Pam Bondi gave up on that mission and never even accepted it. She never acted as anything more than Donald Trump’s personal criminal defense attorney and personal injury lawyer, transforming the People’s Department of Justice into the president’s private instrument of vengeance, attacking his critics with a bureaucracy of vengeance while destroying justice for his favorite political friends and allies.
Her legacy of failure begins with the scandalous purge of prosecutors who investigated Trump’s pet crimes, including those committed by the police officers and insurrectionists of January 6 and by Trump himself. Career officials were driven out of the Justice Department not because they failed to obey the law, but because they enforced it. The purge of real prosecutors has corrupted DOJ and made all Americans less safe.
This shameful legacy is reinforced by her grotesque mishandling of the Epstein files. She conducted a historic and blatant cover-up straight from the Department of Justice. The investigation into co-conspirators was dropped. She withheld three million pages of documents, contrary to the law. The names of abusers, accomplices and co-conspirators were withheld from the public, while the identities of the victims were revealed to the world. Under Bondi, the perpetrators were coddled and the survivors were given the back of their hands.
