The mainstream media has adopted the Trump administration’s myth that it has turned over all the documents from the Epstein dossier.
House Judiciary Committee member Jamie Raskin said the Trump administration has turned over only half of the documents, and of those released, hundreds of thousands of pages have been redacted.
Attorney General Pam Bondi is scheduled to testify before the House Judiciary Committee on Feb. 11, and Raskin and the Democrats’ committee want to review the unredacted files before her appearance.
Raskin wrote to the DOJ:
Our review is particularly urgent because DOJ itself claims to have identified more than six million potentially responsive pages, but after releasing only about half of those (including more than 200,000 pages that DOJ redacted or withheld) strangely says it has fully complied with the law. We seek to ensure that your editorials comply with the law’s requirement that material be withheld only in limited circumstances, such as to protect the personally identifiable information of victims, and not on the basis of “embarrassment, reputational harm, or political sensitivity, including toward a government official, public figure, or foreign dignitary.”
Yesterday, the Department of Justice (DOJ) released a series of documents relating to disgraced sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, claiming to have fully complied with his obligations under the Epstein Files Transparency Act (EFTA). At the press conference, Deputy Attorney General Blanche also said, “If any member of Congress would like to review portions of the response to the production in an unredacted form, he or she is welcome to make arrangements with the Department, and we are happy to do so.”
Additionally, in light of Attorney General Bondi’s appearance at a hearing before the Committee on February 11, it is vital that Committee members and staff have the opportunity to review the unredacted files to assess the legality and appropriateness of your redactions and to investigate the Attorney General on this matter.
It’s shocking that so many people are willing to take what the Trump DOJ has released at face value.
The full documents must be reviewed.
It is not smart to force compliance with the law from a government led by a 34-time convicted felon.
Democrats need to conduct oversight because it is a small portion of what Epstein survivors earn.
