Israeli naval groups understood 39 ships from a Gaza-related auxiliary curse on Thursday, in which dozens of activists were detained-including international climate activist Greta Thunberg and various European legislators, the Associated Press reported.
The global Sumud fleet, which left over the Mediterranean Sea with more than 40 boats that wore around 500 activists, was still the largest who tried to break the blockade of Israel of the enclave, according to the AP.
The fleet has since been reduced to a single ship that has still gone to Gaza. Organizers with the global Sumud Flotilla said on X that the boat was last only followed a few miles of Gaza’s coast before the contact was lost. Activists told the AP that they believed that the size of the fleet would make it harder for Israeli troops to intercept every ship.
Photos and security images recorded when Israeli soldiers were on board the fleet in helmets and night vision glasses. A photo of the Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs showed Thunberg, the most prominent of the passengers of the fleet, accompanied by soldiers after the interception. Israeli officials said that the detained Thunberg, former mayor of Barcelona Ada Colau and the European MP Rima Hassan, were according to the AP.

The Flotilla is part of a series of international efforts to challenge the blockade of Israel, which has been in force since 2007 after Hamas had taken over control of Gaza. Earlier attempts of activist flotillas to break the blockade have largely failed and have sometimes fueled deadly collisions, also during the Gaza Freedom Flotilla -Inval in 2010.
