The security cabinet of Israel approved a plan early on Friday to occupy Gaza City, which marked an escalation in the current war of Israel against Hamas.
The announcement comes after a whole night meeting of the Security Cabinet, after the announcement of the Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu that Israel intended to re -take control of the entire territory and eventually to give it to friendly Arab troops against Hamas.
“The Security Cabinet has approved the Prime Minister’s proposal for beating Hamas. The IDF will prepare for control over Gaza City while spreading humanitarian aid outside the battle zones,” read a function of the Prime Minister of Israel’s Prime Minister.

“A decisive majority of the Ministers of Security Cabinet believed that the alternative plan that had been submitted to the security cabinet, nor the defeat of Hamas, would not reach, nor the return of the hostages,” said the Prime Minister’s office.
Israel has repeatedly bombed Gaza City since October 7, 2023 Massacre in addition to performing countless raids. Nowadays it is one of the few areas of Gaza that has not been changed to an Israeli buffer zone or placed under evacuation.

“We don’t want to keep it. We want a security peripheral,” said Netanyahu in the interview. “We want to hand over to Arabic troops that will rule well without threatening us and giving Gazans a good life.”
The prospect of a complete military occupation of Gaza comes 20 years after the full withdrawal of Israel from the Enclave then, as part of the unilateral withdrawal of the country, the government removed around 8,600 Jewish residents from the area. Shortly thereafter, Hamas won the Palestinian legislative elections and organized a violent coup to overthrow the Palestinian authority and to grab control of the Gaza Strip.

Hamas guided militants kidnapped 251 people and killed around 1,200 in the massacre of 7 October 2023 that caused the war. Since then, more than 60,000 Palestinians have been killed in Israel’s retaliation offensive according to Hamas-Runned Health Minister of Hamas, which makes no distinction between citizens and fighters.

Most hostages have been released in ceasefires -but 50 remain in Gaza. The Israeli government believes that around 20 of them are still alive.
