While the Israeli air strikes pounded Tehran this week – including a direct hit on the Iran’s State Television Headquarters – the residents in the capital described a city by fear and confusion.
According to the journalist, the Israeli strike on the Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting (Irib) connection is hard – physically and symbolic.

“The studio that was bombed yesterday is part of the state broadcaster of the regime, a mouthpiece for propaganda that people never represented. For years we presented the fall of Irib as the last chapter in the collapse of the Islamic Republic. But yesterday we were all in shock,” they said. “Ordinary people don’t watch the TV of the regime, but the attack on it felt strange symbolic – as if the world is shifting.”
Another independent Iranian journalist added ironically: “I saw the video of the TV station that was bombed while she was always in the air and could not stop laughing.”

Despite the chaos, journalists like them are still trying to report. “We do not know the exact number of victims, and even the government figures are not reliable. We do not have access to the attack sites – security forces are pushing us away. And the performance against reporters has only become worse.”
Internet access is largely broken. “Usually the internet doesn’t work at all,” they added. “But we try to continue.”

The result was reportedly fast, which resulted in a massive exodus of the capital. “People are terrified,” said a resident of Tehran. “They lock their doors and flee the city. Roads are full. But for those of us who stay – it’s not easy either. We hear rockets, bomb attacks, explosions all night.”
“I don’t want to leave my house. But yes – I’m scared,” she added.

“You bomb a city of ten million and tell people that they have to get up?” Add: “When people are under fire, they don’t start a revolution – they take shelter or flee.”
