Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi warned on Saturday that Tehran will attack “American bases” in the region if US forces launch an attack, a report said.
The comment came after Araghchi said on Friday that indirect nuclear talks with the US in Oman were “a good start” and that there was a “consensus” that negotiations would continue.
“It would not be possible to attack US territory, but we will attack their bases in the region” if Iran is attacked by US forces, Araghchi told Al Jazeera on Saturday: according to Reuters.
“We will not attack neighboring countries; instead we will target US bases stationed there. There is a big difference between the two,” he reportedly added.

The US last June nuclear facilities attacked in Iran, in what has become known as Operation Midnight Hammer.
In response, Iran launched a retaliatory attack on Al-Udeid, the US air base in Qatar, which President Donald Trump featured at the time as a ‘very weak response’.
“Iran officially responded to our destruction of their nuclear facilities with a very weak response, which we expected, and responded very effectively. Fourteen missiles were fired – thirteen were downed and one was ‘released’ as it went in a non-threatening direction,” the president wrote on Truth Social.

On Friday’s nuclear talks, Araghchi said: “It was a good start, but their continuation depends on consultations in our respective capitals and decisions on how to proceed.”
Omani Foreign Minister Badr al-Busaidi met with both Iranian and US officials on Friday, Oman’s Foreign Ministry said on X. The ministry said al-Busaidi held separate meetings with Araghchi and US special envoy Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner.

“The consultations aimed at preparing the right conditions for the resumption of diplomatic and technical negotiations, while underscoring their importance, in light of the parties’ determination to ensure their success in achieving lasting security and stability,” Oman’s Foreign Ministry said.
