At least 20 people have been killed after an overnight attack on Palm Sunday in Nigeria’s north-central region.
According to Joyce Lohya Ramnap, state commissioner for information, the attack took place in Gari Ya Waye community in Jos North area of ​​Plateau state.
It remains unclear how many people were injured or killed, and who was behind the massacre.
Residents told The Associated Press that armed men on bicycles fired “sporadically” into the community, killing at least 20 people.

International Christian Concern (ICC), a global humanitarian organization, reported the gunmen killed at least 30 people.
The ICC also noted that at least ten people were killed earlier Sunday, with humanitarian aid worker Alex Barbir stating on social media that the victims were Christians.
After the attacks, the Plateau state government imposed a 48-hour curfew.

In 2025, the ICC documented the murder of at least 54 Christians in the village of Zikke near Jos after the celebration of Palm Sunday.
More than 100 homes were destroyed during the ambush.
According to Open Doors, a global Christian charity, Nigeria ranks as the seventh worst country in the world for Christian persecution, accounting for 72% of the total number of Christian murders worldwide by 2025.
