Gene Hackman and Betsy Arakawa Hackman’s former New Mexico home has officially hit the market, nearly a year after their deaths.
The 13,004-square-foot Santa Fe home is for sale for $6.25 million, in partnership with agents Tara S. Earley and Ricky Allen of Sotheby’s International Realty.
Originally built in 1997, the five-bedroom, 10-bathroom home also features a large living room, large dining area and library. On the lower level of the home you will find a fitness room, game room and media room.
The grounds also include a three-bedroom guest house, as well as another building that can be used as an art studio, yoga studio and music studio, or as a second guest house.

In addition to the amenities in the house, guests will find multiple outdoor spaces, including a swimming poolenclosed hot tub, secluded putting green and separate garages that can accommodate six vehicles.
“The Hackmans hugged Santa Fe, and Santa Fe hugged them,” Earley said The Wall Street Journal. “You saw them around town, and they weren’t treated like celebrities. [They] went to the Artisan art store and bought his stuff like everyone else.”

After an investigation, authorities were able to rule out foul play and the possibility that the couple died as a result of a gas leak.

At a press conference in March, authorities revealed that Betsy died of hantavirus pulmonary syndrome, later adding that she lived at least until February 12.
Hantavirus is characterized by “flu-like symptoms consisting of fever, muscle aches, coughing, sometimes vomiting and diarrhea that may progress to shortness of breath and heart or heart and lung failure,” explained chief medical examiner Dr. Heather Jarrell during the press conference.

According to New Mexico officials, Gene died of hypertensive atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease, with Alzheimer’s disease a major contributing factor. He was probably home alone for about a week until he died around February 18, which was the last time activity was recorded on his pacemaker.

Gene was 95 when he died, and his wife was 63.

The beloved actor got his start in the film industry in 1958, doing stage work and small TV roles before getting his big break in the 1967 film ‘Bonnie and Clyde’, which earned him his award. first Academy Award nomination.
