Sen. John Fetterman, D-Pa., reflects on the growing ideological divide within the Democratic Party and explains on “Kudlow” the importance of immediately opening up the government.
Fetterman acknowledged his party’s “very active” progressive wing, pointing to a news conference Wednesday in which Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer was interrupted by Sen. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt. criticized the Democrats for not supporting Mamdani.
“To me it doesn’t really matter,” Fetterman said of Mamdani’s win over “Kudlow,” saying his focus is on the people of Pennsylvania.

Top Democrats were also divided over Mamdani’s success, with Schumer, a New Yorker, not formally supporting him. House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries ultimately endorsed the newly elected mayor.
What was important to Fetterman were the longest government shutdown in American historywhich he said he voted for an end four times.

As a ‘committed Democrat’ Fetterman said he’s fighting for the millions of Americans on SNAP “and the unions that have all been affected by this thing.”
SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program) Benefits were suspended on November 1, the first time in 60 years that the food assistance program has been disrupted due to a government shutdown.

The Trump administration has partially resumed SNAP benefits for November, following court orders that the federal government use emergency funds from the Department of Agriculture.

Other parties affected by the shutdown that Fetterman wants to draw attention to include the military, the U.S. Capitol Police and air traffic controllers.

“I couldn’t even find a flight to DC here,” Fetterman said.
“This thing has run its course.”
The senator added that it is a “sad political spectacle” and said he feels “ashamed.”
“America deserves better than this right now,” Fetterman said.
