Portland, Ore. (AP) – A judge of Oregon sentenced former NBA player Ben McLemore on Wednesday to more than eight years in prison, a week after one Jury found him guilty From raping a woman at a party from 2021 in the house of a teammate then.
The former Portland Trail Blazer was sentenced to 100 months in prison by Clackamas County Circuit Court Judge Michael Wetzel, Portland TV Station KGW reported. Last week the jury found the 32-year-old guilty to rape, illegal sexual penetration and one count of sexual abuse. He was not found guilty of another count of sexual abuse.
The charges concerned a 21-year-old woman and stem from a party on a house that was owned by teammate Robert Covington in the suburb of Portland of Lake Oswego.
During the trial, the prosecutors of Clackamas County described the sexual encounter as a rape. The defense argued that it was consensual sex.
The woman testified that she was called in because of alcohol and was unable to give permission, KGW reported. McLemore said he had also drunk, but testified that it was consensual.
McLemore, who played in Kansas, was the seventh choice in the NBA design of 2013 by the Sacramento Kings. He also played for Memphis, Houston and the Los Angeles Lakers for his last NBA season with Portland in 2021-2022.
Since then he has been playing professionally abroad in Europe, China and Turkey.
