Donald Trump won two presidential elections by keeping his support nearly universal among Republican voters and by rallying enough swing voters to achieve victory.
Trump’s administration has always been based on having a unified Republican Party.
It’s been almost a decade since pundits and attention seekers everywhere proclaimed that they were certain THIS was the moment Republicans would abandon Trump.
The moment never came. No matter what Trump did or said, Republicans remained united with him in the high ninety percent. Donald Trump thought he was politically bulletproof, and there was nothing he could do that would make his supporters abandon him.
Trump bungled a pandemic, lost an election, tried to overthrow the government, was impeached twice, and was federally investigated and indicted twice.
Republicans stuck with Trump through all of this.
They continued to support Trump even during trade wars, tariffs and a declining economy.
The first crack in Trump’s support for some Republicans came with the Epstein dossiers, but the big issue that seems to be causing some Republicans to flee their own president is not Jeffrey Epstein.
It’s healthcare.
