Conservative radio host Erick Erickson raised eyebrows this week with a rather politically incorrect social media post about how conservative men, referencing Joe Kent, who recently resigned from the Trump administration, can be influenced by liberal women.
Here is the message:
‘There is a rule in conservative politics that a man is rarely to the right of his wife. Joe Kent lost his first wife in the war and remarried a woman who now works for a far-left anti-Israel, pro-Iranian website. Kent should never have been appointed anywhere in the Trump administration.”

At first glance, this seems shocking, especially at a time when so many are trying to lower the political temperature. But then again, Kent isn’t the only example of this phenomenon of left-wing women influencing their husbands that we’ve seen this week.
JIMMY KIMMEL’S WIFE CALLS IT A ‘FRAGILE TIME FOR FREEDOM’ AFTER HUSBAND’S SHORT SUSPENSION
So could the stereotype of brutal MAGA men forcing their wives to vote for Trump be so far removed that it’s the liberal women who control the Overton window in the house?
Take the viral video from Bill Maher’s show this weekend, in which actor Jerry O’Connell admits to being virtually physically attacked by his wife and daughters over mild criticism of Kamala Harris last election night.
After stating the obvious fact that Harris’ campaign was, shall we say, lackluster, O’Connell dramatically told Maher, “Without saying anything, [They] became physical…They were filled with rage.”
He continued, “Yes, I live in California. I live with not one, not two, but three people [women] which, if I was joking, they would, um, get really mad at me, you know.

Meanwhile, comedian Rob Schneider spilled a similar tea on rabidly anti-Trump talk show host Jimmy Kimmel, and he didn’t hold back.
After claiming that Kimmel’s liberal wife confiscated some anatomical items from former comedian Kimmel, he said, “His wife is the head writer on the show. She used to be an “assistant writer.” Now she is the writer. And I think that completely ruined him. I do. I’m sorry, Jimmy. Maybe I’m wrong, but I think I’m right. Liberal women gone crazy are controlling these men.”

All of these recent examples are reminiscent of a controversial and hilarious ad from the 2024 campaign, in which timid white women secretly empowered each other at the ballot box to defy their horrible MAGA husbands and vote for Harris.
On the spot, none other than movie star Julia Roberts says seriously to the girls: “In the only place in America where women still have the right to choose, you can vote any way you want and no one will ever know.”
I can’t remember meeting a liberal white woman in the last ten years who not let me know, usually quite explicitly, exactly how they voted, but let’s put that aside.
KIMMEL’S WIFE SAYS DAUGHTER ‘BURNED IN TEARS’ AFTER DAD’S SHOW SUSPENDED, SON ASKED IF TRUMP WAS RESPONSIBLE
The entire ad was a fantasy, a stereotype of misogyny, promoted by strident women who are actually trying to control their husbands’ votes.
This is where all the strange biannual campaigns to deny sex to men to achieve political goals come from, and it’s not new. Aristophines came up with the idea in 411 BC. in the play Lysistrata, the only time this tactic ever worked.
The point Erickson makes, which all of these examples become concrete, is that in a marriage it is just as likely, if not more likely, that a liberal wife will be the political bully than the conservative husband.

This is a trend in our society nowadays. Many women think they don’t have conservative male friends. I often ask if they have male friends who are just nice and never talk about politics. If they say yes, I say, “Those are your conservative friends.”
This is usually met with a subtle facial expression of recognition. I think it’s a bit of a shame to let them out.

It should not be suggested that a left-wing woman and a MAGA man cannot have a healthy, loving, and robust marriage, even if they work in politics. But every social pressure today, from standing up to alleged fascism on the one hand to proclaiming communism on the other, makes that situation increasingly difficult.

Ultimately, not surprisingly, the best answer may be to turn down the temperature, not just in the halls of power or the studios of major media, but also around the hearth at home.
In the meantime, we can’t blame conservative voters who look a little askance at a Republican politician with a woman in a pink hat, because let’s face it, despite all the political power in the world, these guys still have to go home at night.
