So, Joe and Eileen Bailey, that beautiful fictional couple from Massapequa, are back in the news. In the event you have missed it, John Oliver has uncovered from HBO that the prototypic stamping couple that for decades served as a policy mus for senate -remedy leader Chuck Schumer, dn.y., does not really exist.
It has always been a wink open secret that Joe and Eileen are the imagination of Schumer, but the senator has given his characters for years of detailed background story all that leads to one conclusion: the Democratic party has completely left Joe and Eileen Bailey.
Ex-NBC News Houst Chuck Todd received a Democratic Party a ‘collection of people who do not like Trump’
In his book ‘Positive American’ from 2007, Schumer gave us a miniature of this invented middle class Swing voters, and it is worth digging in a bit and comparing it with the democratic priorities in 2025.
Joe and Eileen, as the story goes, bought the Republicanism of Reagan in the 1980s. They don’t really believe down in drop, but they don’t believe in many government spending either.

Well, here in 2025 the Democrats changed the party of supermarkets run by the government and forgiveness of student debt.
Joe pulls off his cap and sings together with the national anthem at the hockey game and Eileen volunteers in her church.
In 2025, a majority of Democrats do not believe that America is a power in the world forever, and less than a quarter of the Democrats will go to church compared to more than 40% of the Republicans.
Joe and Eileen are pro-choice. They think that every woman has the right to make that decision, but they are happy that their church is not.
In 2025, the Democrats went much further than their old position to be safe, legal and important, rare, to a celebration of the practice on which they would not set limits.
Finally, Joe and Eileen are not anti-immigration, but they are against illegal immigration.
In 2025, the position of the Democrats is that almost all estimated 20 million illegal immigrants that have been deposited under President Joe Biden must have the right to stay in the country.
What we see here is the perfect encapsulation of how Democrats have left the political center of the nation in their bizarre swing to the left.

Even Schumer admits this. In recent interviews, he acknowledged that the Baileys voted for Donald Trump in 2016, divided their voice in 2020 and subsequently came back to Trump, the reason Chuck gives for these most recent voices is crime.
Crime! This is the same Chuck Schumer who went to social media this week to say that crime in Washington, DC, is no problem, and he knows it because he makes his security detail early in the morning walks around the Capitol.
Has this man even read his own book? Where does he think that Joe and Eileen are on fighting crime in DC and closer to their fictional house in New York City? He has already said that this is exactly what the Baileys President Donald Trump has chosen to do.
Democrats could claim that Joe and Eileen are now in the 1970s, that they are no longer the archetype of the Democratic voter, but in fact to steal a page from Schumer’s book, I met Joe and Eileen everywhere in this country.
These are the strong and stable Americans who work hard, keep their heads low, are not overly ideological and want a government that is effective, but not one that dominates their lives.

Joe and Eileen can be a miner and a hairdresser in the west of Pennsylvania, they can be a steel worker and waitress in Ohio, they can be an agent and an office assistant in North Carolina. They vote red in all these places.
Schumer has correctly identified the central problem that his party has with all these Joes and Eileens, while Republicans lick their pork chops to run a medium term against socialist Zohran Mamdani if he would win the Mayoral Race in New York in November.

Schumer’s party is waved wild to the left, and for some reason he, although he has been the most powerful democrat has been chosen in America, does not seem to do anything about it.
If Democrats will ever get Joe and Eileen back, this will not be due to Chuck Schumer. But if someone in the party does not stand up and starts talking to their worries, the Baileys may never be blue.
