From a Chicago roof to a 3000-mile trip, here is how I fight to restore the soul of America
This is nothing more than vulnerability of minorities. This is nothing more than protecting the “victim story” that has been to America for the past 60 years. Do we really believe that blacks and other minorities are so vulnerable that they cannot listen to a debate about the American dream? Do we really believe that they will crumble psychologically, or worse, from whatever paranoia she stops?
Over the past two decades I have made my mission to destroy the bad wedding myth that the American dream is dead.
I know people like Monique Gamble most of my life. They may have the title of Professor, but they are really the Guardians of the Black Victim Narrative. In the words of Shelby Steele, Gamble’s Black Power – I say black because that is what she sees herself – comes from the use of black victimization to exploit white debt. She can’t come in anyone and challenge her story. She can’t come in anyone and tell her students about the glory of the American dream. Anti-American is her strength.

When you read Gamble’s reaction to the complaint, the striking thing is how she reduces everyone to identities of unchanging characteristics. That is all she sees her students as. And she accepts false nobility by acting as the protector of her students who will protect them against ‘risks’. But what “risks” are she talking here? The only thing that is in danger here is the vulnerability of her anti-American story that reduces minorities to victim status.
For those who know me, I preach the American dream on the south side of Chicago, where I pastor every day. For decades, people like Gamble told the youth in my neighborhood that the American dream was dead for them. That is why you hear people talking about the white person here or how the system is not built for them. There is nothing for them, but living in the hand of the government.
Over the past two decades I have made my mission to destroy this bad wedding myth that the American dream is dead. I increasingly preach the very simple American virtues of responsibility, responsibility, perseverance, resilience and never give up anyone’s faith in themselves.

When children throw back in my face that the American dream is dead, I tell them to look at what God gave them: two feet that can go everywhere, two hands that can make anything, a mouth that can move worlds, two eyes can see that possibility, and a brain that can come up with a life for themselves. I tell them that America is the country where they can work all gifts of God to work and make themselves a number of bodies.
These debates about the American dream must take place everywhere and we have to reduce against the gambling and others like them. Their evil faith has caused deep damage and far too long. That is why, when I launched my plans for the walk through America, I decided the tagline: the American Dream breathed new life into every block.
