For the Democrats who came onto Fox News, they not only faced ideologically opposed and sometimes hostile hosts and programming, but they also knew that much of the audience they spoke to was among their most hardcore Republican opposition.
That all changed at the margins thanks to Dabout Trump’s spectacularly failed second administration.
Fox News is still predominantly MAGA, but polls show that Republicans are gaining support from independents and non-MAGA Republicans thanks to Trump.
According to Pew research18%-32% of Democrats and Democratic-leaning Independents watch Fox News, so some Democrats and Democratic leaners watch.
The American people have overwhelmingly turned against Trump’s immigration policies, and Senator Chris Murphy (D-CT) appeared on Fox News on Sunday and shot down the network’s ICE lies.
Host Shannon Bream played a clip of Tom Homan pretending that ICE only arrests criminals and asked if Democrats would agree to force local law enforcement to cooperate.
The senator from Connecticut responded:
We still act like ICE is after dangerous people. They’re not. Right? Right now, 70% of the people they detain have absolutely no criminal record.
…
What is happening in Minnesota right now is a dystopia. ICE is using tear gas in elementary schools. It’s the disappearance of legal residents in cars. It’s killing American citizens. ICE makes this country less safe, not safer. Nowadays that’s an emergency. That’s why today, 60% of the American people strongly disagree with what ICE is doing, and we must address that emergency now.
The Constitution is being abandoned by this government at this time, and that is why our focus for the next two weeks must be on governing a lawless and immoral immigration service in this country.
That’s work we have to do over the next two weeks. Hopefully this is work that Republicans and Democrats can agree on.
Murphy was just getting started, as you can see below.
