China On Tuesday denied that it is doing something wrong, because it is said to be “dozens of” Americans from leaving the country under an “exit ban” policy, including at least one American government official.
Reports emerged on Monday afternoon that an American citizen, an employee of the Commerce department, is excluded to leave China and prevented from returning to the US since his passport, credit card, mobile phone and iPad were seized on April 14, reported the New York Times.
The passport was reportedly Return to the person a week later on April 22, although he was told that he was not allowed to leave China.

Although it is unclear whether other US government officials are excluded from leaving China, a spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Beijing, Guo Jiakun, told reporters during a press conference that he had no additional details to share.
“China maintains the rule of law and treats access and exit cases in accordance with the law,” he said.
“We follow these cases closely and have expressed our concern with the Chinese authorities about the well -being of our citizens and impact that these random exit bans have on our bilateral relations and have affected them to return to struck citizens home immediately,” a spokesman added.

In November 2024, the Department issued a level 2 travel advice for Americans considering traveling to China.
The advice gave a warning to “be careful” because of the “random enforcement of the local laws of Beijing, including with regard to exit bans”.
“In the meantime, foreign citizens in China also have to respect and adhere to the Chinese laws,” the spokesperson added.
Although the universal declaration of human rights has recorded the ‘right to freedom of movement’, which states that ‘everyone has the right to leave each country, including his, and to return to his country’, it is not an absolute right, and nations can choose to keep individuals depending on certain conditions, including national security problems.
It is unclear why the trade department employee was blocked to return to the US wherever his wife lives, although apparently he was questioned by the Chinese intelligence authorities about his earlier military service.
