Apple will invest $ 100 billion in the US CEO Tim Cook has announced in the White House and brings its total obligation to $ 600 billion.
First on Fox: A coalition of child safety groups asked the Federal Trade Commission to investigate on Tuesday Appleclaim that the tech giant has entered into misleading practices through his App Store that endanger children.
The Digital Childhood Institute, a non -profit organization with different interest groups, argued that Apple consciously brought certain apps to the market as safe for minors if they are not, the necessary parental supervision did not enforce and enable apps to collect sensitive data from children.
The coalition also accused Apple of widespread violations of the online privacy protection act of the children and to violate a consent decision from 2014 with the FTC that Apple blocked to allow certain in-app purchases by minors.

The coalition said in her complaint that a long-term printing campaign that deals with the expressiveness during the hearings of the congress and the introduction of new legislation was not effective in generating the tech giant’s change.
The Digital Childhood Institute said as an example that apps such as Snapchat, X, Bluesky, Tiktok and Roblox all have easy access to adult and explicit material, but are marketed in Apple’s App Store as suitable for everyone 12 years and older. Roblox has confronted his Set of lawsuits Claiming that it is a refuge for child predators, but Roblox has denied those claims and says that its safety is the highest priority.

The coalition claimed that Apple made a profit to give more access to these apps.
The complaint also claims that Apple minors enable binding conditions of service agreements with which apps can collect sensitive data from young users, such as location and photos, without parents’ involvement.
Apple, which reported more than $ 10 billion in App Store in 2024, has said that his platform is a “safe and trusted place” for families. But the proponents of child safety that have submitted the FTC complaint say that the recent safety updates of the technology company are largely cosmetic and do not tackle deeper problems.

Digital Childhood Institute chairman Melissa Mckay said in a statement that submitting a complaint to the FTC was the next logical step.
“For years, lawyers have fought to keep Apple responsible for its safety errors. Repeated conference sessions, national movements, resolutions and letters brought little change, so we had no choice but to submit formal complaints and write the legislation on App Store Accountability,” McKay said. “Apple’s decade of deception is over.”
