Google has unveiled its Year in Search 2025, highlighting the events, people and pop culture moments that led to the biggest spikes in search interest.
Charlie Kirk topped the list this year as the No. 1 trending search in the US. The founder of Turning Point USA was shot and killed on September 10 while speaking at a campus event at Utah Valley University, sparking a nationwide surge in search activity.
The top five was rounded out by Netflix’s hit film “KPop Demon Hunters,” the viral plush collectible Labubu, Apple’s iPhone 17 and the “One Big Beautiful Bill Act,” which was signed into law in July.
Other big spikes in search activity included newly elected New York Mayor Zohran Mamdani, AI platform DeepSeek, the government shutdown, the FIFA Club World Cup and tariffs, according to to Google.
