“This is a ship designed for intelligence gathering and mapping of our undersea cables,” he said at a news conference. “We deployed a Royal Navy frigate and RAF aircraft to track and monitor this ship’s every move, with the Yantar pointing lasers at our pilots.
Healey warned Russian President Vladimir Putin: “we see you, we know what you are doing, and if the Yantar heads south this week, we will be ready.”
Britain plans to build a number of factories to make ammunition and military explosives. The first is expected to break ground next year.

Healey’s warning came after a report from the Commons Defense Committee said Britain has “no plan to defend the homeland and overseas territories” as it urged the government to launch a “co-ordinated effort to communicate with the public about the level of threat we face”, the news channel reported.
In addition to being part of a naval operation, the Yantar is also part of Moscow’s Main Directorate of Deep Sea Research, or GUGI, which mainly deals with peacetime surveillance and conflict sabotage.

“That’s why we are determined: when the Yantar comes into wider British waters, we will follow it, we will deter it and we will tell Putin we are ready, and we will do that together with allies,” Healey said.
