To say Bill Clinton has been around the block a few times would be a painful understatement. Clinton was the subject of what some say is the most baseless presidential impeachment in American history. Clinton is the only president in American history who became more popular through an impeachment of the opposition party.
Bill Clinton spent years of his presidency with the Republicans in the House of Representatives.
He’s someone who knows his way around political scandals, and the former president also understands what James Comer and House Republicans are trying to do with their investigation of the Oversight Committee, which is much more interested in shifting the blame for the Jeffrey Epstein scandal onto Bill Clinton and away from Donald Trump.
Chairman Comer has denied the former president and First Lady Clinton will testify publicly and in response, Clinton said via a series of messages on X:
I have called for the full release of the Epstein files. I made an affidavit about what I know. And just this week, I agreed to appear before the committee in person. But it’s still not enough for Republicans on the House Oversight Committee.
Now Chairman Comer says he wants cameras, but only behind closed doors. Who benefits from this scheme? It is not Epstein’s victims who deserve justice. Not the public, who deserves the truth. It only serves party interests. This isn’t fact-finding, it’s pure politics.
I will not sit idly by while they use me as a crutch in a closed-door kangaroo court by a Republican Party that is getting scared. If they want answers, let’s stop the games and do it the right way: at a public hearing, where the American people can see for themselves what this is really about.
Former President Clinton is absolutely right. The entire process of demanding testimony from the former president and first lady was centered around politics.
