“The pressure on the company is only speeding up,” said Morse. “The fact that we grow despite that pressure is proof of the hard work we have done, but we have to put all our efforts into the future.”
The move underlines the continuous transformation of local journalism, while Legacy Papers nationwide compared to falling advertising income, decreasing print subscriptions and the unpredictable impact of artificial intelligence and algorithm-driven news discovery.

Morse also told the New York Times that print papers are no longer an efficient way to provide information.
“The fact is, the printing of newspapers and putting them in trucks and driving around and delivering them to people’s front bigers has not been the most effective way to divide the news in a very long time,” Morse told The Times.

The AJC said that the circulation peaked more than 600,000 two decades ago, but only around 40,000 subscribers still receive the printed edition.
