The consensus is that there is something fishy going on with Speaker Mike Johnson’s refusal to swear in Rep.-elect Adelita Grijalva, who is currently enduring one of the longest waits in history before a new member is sworn in.
Speculation among Democrats has increased this Grijalva’s swearing-in is postponed because the White House is angry about Epstein’s resignation request from the House of Representatives.
Even though Speaker Johnson already has a plan to end the discharge petition by changing the House rules, Grijalva’s swearing-in may need to be postponed to get the votes needed to change the rules to increase the number of signatures required for a discharge request before it can go to hearing. There is ongoing speculation that the delay is related to the Epstein files.
Democratic Senators Mark Kelly and Reuben Gallego went straight to the source and confronted Speaker Mike Johnson during his press conference today.
Senator Gallego immediately asked Johnson why Grijalva has not yet been sworn in.
Johnson made it clear that he is holding the seat hostage until Senate Democrats vote for his CR: “Reopen the government so we can get back to work.”
