Ward first hit the face in the wall while he followed a lining that was hit by the Ramon Urias van Houston in the eighth inning. While Urias was the second in the second, Ward got up immediately and waved to the angels who challenged help while blood flowed over his face.
Relievers Andrew Chafin and Kenley Jansen ran from the bullpen of the Angels with towels to help Ward. The match was delayed almost 10 minutes when trainers and paramedics were present at Ward.
Angels Interim manager Ray Montgomery was not sure if Ward had a concussion and hoped that he didn’t hurt his eye. Ward held a towel over his right eye while he was treated.
“The only saving grace was that he was totally relaxed when he hit it,” Montgomery said reporters after the 3-0 victory. “He did not brace himself and it seemed that something might have knocked on the wall or cut his eye. I hope he is doing well.”
Colleague Angels Outfielder Jo Adell was very critical about the Hunton Ballpark. Adell was injured in September 2021 while crashing with the same part of the wall.
“He does what he should do,” Adel told reporters. “He is aggressive on a play. The Bottom Line, and I spoke about this before, but there should be no metal scoreboard outside the baseball court.
“I picked it up. I hit my head. I missed a month and a half of the season. At what time it is just no longer acceptable? I don’t know. In my opinion.”
Ward was 0-out-1 with three walks on Sunday. He has set up career of 30 homers and 94 RBIs, despite a lean .228 stroke average.

This is not Ward’s first facial damage. He was drilled in the face on July 29, 2023 by a throw from Alek Manoah from the Toronto Blue Jays.
Ward walked up three broken face bones and missed the rest of the season. He later told reporters that he underwent reconstructive facial surgery and had inserted two plates. He later brought a sign into his skull.
