Retired cockpit recordings of last month’s deadly Air India -Crash reveal a moment of confusion between the pilots after the engines of the aircraft lost abruptly, just a few seconds after taking off.
The engines of the Boeing 787 Dreamliner – which crashed and caused the deadliest aviation accident in a decade – were starved of fuel when the Cutoff switches suddenly turned halfway through the flight, according to a provisional report released on Saturday by India’s Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau.

Researchers discovered that the switches of the fuel control of “running” were turned over to “cutting” almost simultaneously shortly after the launch. However, the report did not clarify how or why the switches have changed positions. These switches are usually used to close engines after landing or in emergency situations, such as a motorcycle fire – not during the take off.
At the crash location, both fuel switches were found in the “Run” position, which indicates that the engines were automatically covered, but were unable to quickly reverse the rapid thrust of the aircraft, according to the report.

The crash has increased renewed control over the design and placement of the critical switches for fuel closures.
The report noted that in 2019 the US Federal Aviation Administration a special warning for information Bulletin (SAIB) of the airworthiness has issued that some Boeing 737 fuel switches were installed with their locking functions. However, the issue was not considered dangerous enough to require compulsory repairs or actions according to the federal air -ranking rules.
The same switch design was used in Air India’s doomed aircraft, but Air India did not carry out inspections because the alert was advisory.

Air India confirmed that in a statement The airline Had received the provisional report from the AAIB and said that it would continue to collaborate with researchers.
