Steve Pagliuca, a minority owner of the Boston Celtics of the NBA, is said to have reached a historical agreement to buy the Connecticut Sun of the WNBA.
Pagliuca agreed to buy the sun for $ 325 million, The Boston Globe reported.
The deal is being treated, but if the Board of Governors provides the final approval, the price tag would be the most expensive sale in the history of WNBA.
“Decisions of relocation are made by the WNBA council of directors and not by individual teams,” read a statement from the competition.

Pagliuca is planning to move the franchise to Boston by the 2027 season. The deal also includes promises to invest $ 100 million in a new training site in Boston for the team. The Sun has some fame with Boston, after he had played a regular season game at The Celtics’ Home Arena each of the last two years.

Cleveland received a franchise that will take the court in 2028, while the expansion club of Detroit starts competing in 2029. The Philadelphia team starts playing the following year. Each of those cities agreed with a subsequent expansion costs of $ 250 million to secure the new teams.

Despite this year’s 5-21 record, the Sun has traditionally been one of the more successful franchises of this competition on and outside the field. The team is credited with 16 Postseason appearances and became the first WNBA franchise that became profitable.
The sales agreement of $ 325 million is a strong increase compared to the last pair of WNBA sales.
