Three people are dead, and 10 others were injured after a massive shooting broke out in a popular nightclub on the Turks and Caicos Islands early Sunday morning, an attack officers call the first of its kind on British territory.
The police of Royal Turks and the police of Caicos said that the shooting took place just before 3 hours on July 27 in the water pipe and cigar lounge in Providenciales. According to researchers, at least four suspects were involved in the attack, although no arrests were made from Tuesday.
Police Commissioner Fitz Bailey described the incident as “deeply disturbing” in a statement to the corresponding press.
During a press conference, Prime Minister Charles Washon Misick connected the shooting to gang-related violence and noted that much of the activity seems concentrated in Haitian communities. He urged members of those communities to collaborate with law enforcement and to help identify how illegal firearms enter the country.

“What we witness is unprecedented,” Misick said. “This level of violence is not something that we can become normal. This is not a situation that we have to accept. It is not a generic situation and we will do everything possible to stamp it out.”
Authorities confirmed that 10 people were transported to the hospital after the attack. Seven remain in the hospital with a variety of injury and one person is in a serious condition. Two victims were flown abroad for advanced treatment, and the local hospital was locked to secure the stage and to protect the wounded.
In a statement on his official Facebook page, the police of Royal Turks and the Caicos police condemned the shooting and urged the public to help with the investigation.

“This incident underlines the capacity and willingness of criminals to commit serious acts of violence against our citizens, residents and visitors,” said the statement. “The police urge everyone with information to work with us to bring these criminals to justice.”
A reward of $ 10,000 is offered for information that leads to the arrest of the suspects. Authorities have not yet identified a clear motive.
Prime Minister Misick assured the public that the government fully supports the law enforcement and emphasized the importance of unity and resolving in the light of such violence.

“My government is 100% behind the police. It is important that we do everything we can to turn the violence,” he said. “At the same time, I want to rely on the general public not to panic. We should not retreat, as the commissioner said, to the face of those who want to destroy the good reputation of our islands.”
The tragedy comes in the midst of renewed efforts of the Turks and the government of Caicos to combat illegal immigration.
“Just let me cut to the chase,” Misick added. “We are now seeing the dead of the gangland. Much of this gang violence seems to be concentrated in our Haitian communities.”

According to the Humanitarian Office of the United Nations, an estimated 10,900 Haitians live on the Turks and Caicos Islands, good for about a third of the total population. About 80% live on Providenciales, the most densely populated island of the area, but only 20% have a permanent residence status.
“Let this be a warning for everyone – those who know something and say nothing, those who help and hold criminals, and those who commit crimes,” Warned Misick. “This government strives to ensure that the Turks and Caicos Islands remain a safe place to live and raise families.”
