Last year, reports initially emerged from the first the French media outlet Africa Intelligence, and then the NGO established in Washington the Institute for Science and International Security, that the West African Nation of Niger had settled the sale to Tehran of $ 56 million on so-called yellow cake-uranium oxide. The 300 tons of uranium, some of which have already been delivered partially according to one source, is said to be sufficient to make 30 nuclear weapons.
Analysts say that Niger could prepare to sell even more ‘yellow cake’ to Iran. Uranium in the country has until recently been mined by mainly French companies, such as Orano. But the military leaders of Niger, who came to power in 2023, announced that they will withdraw mine permits and nationalize mining activities. It is said that Iran wants to close a deal to start uranium extraction itself in Niger, in particular around Imors, an area where the land estimated 200,000 tons of the metal contains.
In a movement that was seen to Russia and Iran, Niger ended an agreement last year with the Biden administration, which led to the closure of two American military bases in the country used for anti-terror operations.

“The Iranian Africa strategy can be considered as three components,” said Cronje. “The first is to offer training and material support to extremist groups in Africa to help worldwide export terror, and to focus on Christians and pro-Western communities on the continent, while creating a high threat environment for Western investors.
“To this end, the Global Terreat Threat Index scores for various African countries are going to surpass those of traditional Middle Eastern terror staples.
