A crew member of the world’s largest cruise has died after going overboard on Thursday, the ship’s operator told Fox Business.
The victim, which was not identified, went into the water while on board the 1200-foot long icon of the seas while it sailed near San Salvador Island in the Bahamas, about 200 miles east of Nassau, according to reports.
It is unclear how or why the crew member went overboard.

“Our crew immediately started a search and rescue operation, but unfortunately the crew member died,” said a spokesperson for Royal Caribbean.
“We extend our participation in the family and loved ones of the crew member. To respect their privacy, we have no additional details to share.”
The 250,000 tons ship was reportedly en route to Coco Cay at the time of the incident. Coco Cay is Royal Caribbean’s Private Island Resort in the Berry Islands of the Bahamas
A overboard alarm was activated around 7 p.m., in which the deployment of the ship’s rescue vessel was activated, which the crew member, the cruise website, recovered Cruise Hive reported.

The incident came after a male passenger went overboard on the same ship in May 2024. The man was brought back alive, but was later declared dead by the medical staff on board.

The icon of the seas was first employed in January 2024.
It has 20 decks, of which 18 are open to 7,600 guests who can organize it at the same time, according to a fact sheet. It can hold a crew of up to 2,350.
The ship was built with just over 2,800 guest cabins that include 28 sizes.
The ship has 40 locations for food and entertainment, together with eight different “neighborhoods”, a huge water park, several swimming pools and innovative entertainment rooms.
