Head of Enterprise SVCs and Public Affairs at Citi Edward Skyler discusses alternative solutions for Mayor of New York City, the Zohran Mamdanis campaign promises in the midst of concern about housing costs about the Claman -Taftellen.
Zohran Mamdani’s Application for mayor of New York City could have fallen on the real estate market of the city if he has the upper hand in this fall and can implement his socialist policy.
The Mamdani campaign has called on the levying of taxes on companies, together with the richest inhabitants of the city who earn more than $ 1 million annually. He has also called for the implementation of free childcare, creating supermarkets in the city and increasing the minimum wage to $ 30 per hour by 2030.
His platform also includes policies with regard to real estate, in which the construction of 200,000 new units of “permanently affordable, trade union built, rental-stabilized houses” in a decade, while the rental prices for all rent-stabilized tenants immediately freeze.

Debas said that the real estate market in New York City had the most popular start of the year since 2021, although he noticed that it “had been considerably delayed” in recent weeks and said it was not clear whether it was due to seasonal or “because of the uncertainty of the upcoming elections for mayor.”
“I think that most of us in the real estate world were quite shocked to see a progressive socialist profit, just as much traction as he got so far,” he said.
“My gut feeling is that consumers take a step back and wait and see how this takes place, because if a socialist is chosen as mayor of New York City, I don’t think it will be good for health in the long term of our local economy and the real estate sector.”

Debas said that New York City individuals and companies have seen the city leave in the years since the pandemic in search of friendlier business climates with lower loads, a dynamic that could pick up steam if Mamdani wins the mayor election.
“If you have an anti-business, socialist agenda, try to redistribute your wealth and to tax your earners with the highest income, you know what we have learned in the last five years, is that you are not bound to New York City. You don’t have to be here. You are really more because you want,” Debbas said.
“Pre-Pandemic, you had to be here, right? You had to be at Wall Street, you had to be at the Megabanks, you had to be where the companies were, and they were all located here. Now the companies show you that they can be elsewhere and the staff will only follow,” he explained, “he explained,” he explained, “he explained,” he explained. ”
“It is certainly an alarming aspect for the future of New York City if you have an exodus of people, and if you have a socialist regime, I think you have an exodus of people.”
Critics say that the socialist mayor runner threatens the economic capital of NYC

Debas said that with increased inflation and high interest rates in the past five years, city regulations that already limit the rent increases mean that the rental prices “do not even keep track of the operational costs of a building.”
He added that Mamdani’s proposal would create the rental home of Mamdani in the real estate markets, of which he said it is a “form of communism” that would form the scene for the government to take over distressed properties.
“You force fear to take place, because if you do not allow landlords to even increase the rental prices in combination with the increased operational costs, there will be inevitable, there will be a shield,” Debas said. “In that situation he wants to create this headache on the market, create this suffering and to have the government set up to acquire these property to create community housing.”

“There is no room in this city-the financial capital of the world, the market is built on the most difficult working, most talented people at first sight of the planet-to be run by a communist, and you are going to subject the real estate market, the backbone of New York’s economy, to take the government,” he added, absolutely. “
