Republicans in the house and the Senate are so desperate to do Donald Trump before they may lose power in November, that they are now breaking the rules of their bodies to please Donald Trump
While the Senate Democrats left the hearing of the Judicial Committee on the appointment of Emil Bove to the Federal Bank, Ranking Member Sen said. Cory Booker (D-NJ) behind to deliver a statement before he left.
Booker said:
Why are you doing this? This is outrageous. This is a kangaroo right bench. That is all we have here.
Mr. President, to break your own rules without fulfilling the mandates of the parliamentarian. This is incredible. There is a way to do this if you want to force this. If you want to go through this, there is a way to do it in accordance with the rules as set out by the parliamentarian. It’s simple. It is clear that there is a path to achieve what you are trying to achieve. It shows that you don’t just want to hear from your colleagues. This is absolutely wrong.
And, Mr, this is this one of those moments when we do not show common respect for each other on both sides. I sat here when we were in the majority and listened to my arguments from colleagues, listen to their passionate statements and then we voted. This is not that. This is that we just try by hurrying one of the most controversial nominees we have had under this presidential administration, sir. God bless America. You are a good man. You are a decent man.
Why are you doing this? What does Donald Trump say to you that you do something that the decorum of this committee violates, the rules of this committee, the decency and respect we have to hear each other at least?
I have been so many long speeches from my colleagues, heard their objections. Listen with sincerity to try to see what their arguments are. But we don’t do that, Mr. This is wrong, and you know. There are some people in this committee who are the least firefighters, and they have run away some of the least controversial people in the Senate, some of the people who have worked the most difficult to find two -way ordinary land, have just walked out of this committee, and I don’t even care.
But I know you do that. I know your heart, senator grassley. This is wrong. I know the kind of person you are, and you know this is wrong. It is not that this is not necessary. What is half an hour to make senators heard? It is what the Constitution is mandatory. They are the ideals of the Senate of the United States. The most deliberative body in the world must need a considerable time to deliberate. But here we don’t do that here. We jam this through with some feeling of false urgency. It is one thing not to hear from whistleblowers. It is something else not to hold another hearing.
But not to allow my colleagues to have their time to speak to this justice. It’s just wrong. And I know you know this. I know you know this. The only time that this rule ever destroyed by both parties was done when a minority tried to pull a stunt to prevent the committee from hearing this. This is not the rule of two hours.
This is a basic element of the ideals of this committee, sir. It is the basic knowledge of having debate and consultation. It is a basic knowledge that we can listen to each other, even if we don’t agree, that we have to have time and space and a forum to listen. Sir, this is wrong in every possible way. It is wrong in every possible way. This is a abuse of power. It is a undermining of the well -being and the integrity of this, this Senate and this committee that I have had for so long. I am so honored to be part of. This is wrong, sir. And I joined my colleagues and left. This is a sham. This is wrong.
Republicans committee violated the rules of the committee that require that at least two members of the minority party are present before a vote can be held. Chair Chuck Grassley kept the mood about the nomination with zero Democrats present.
Republicans took these extreme steps to silence a whistleblower, whose claims suggest that Bove is completely unsuitable and unqualified for a lifelong appointment to the federal bank.
What was more important than the democratic strike was Cory Booker who explained exactly why they walked away.
The American people must understand that the disease of lawlessness is more infected than the White House. It also consumed the Republican majorities in the congress.
Republicans abuse their power and it is up to Democrats to expose them.
