Now what is called shakedown money in the form of one Rule of law has been paid, the Paramount merger with Skydance, which is run by Trump -Bondenmoten who will be completed the Ellison brothers within a few weeks.
Paramount is the owner of CBS and Comedy Central, among other things, networks, and the new incoming property has made it clear that they want to remove what they call the liberal blemish of their purchase.
Paramount is currently using Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert, and both futures are now uncertain.
Oliver Darcy wrote in the Status newsletter:
Within ‘The Daily Show’, I was told that employees have been proud that Stewart has again shown that he is willing to stand up against powerful interests, even if it is possible to risk his future employment. And although they may not know it yet, there is an open question in certain power circles: how long will Stewart still have?
The reality is indeed that the ground is shifted quickly under not only Stewart, but also Stephen Colbert. Skydance, led by Larry and David Ellison, now believes that his merger with Paramount will close in the coming weeks, told me. A lot of attention has focused on how the Ellisons will reform “60 minutes” and CBS News. We first reported that David Ellison Bari Weiss met about a possible role at CBS News, and it is clear that the Ellisons want to free the network from what they see as a liberal tracking. But little has been said about the future of Colbert and Stewart, who have been two of Trump’s most consistent comic antagonists, under the new business leadership.
Jon Stewart’s contract rose at the end of 2026 and he will probably get a large sum of money paid to do one show a week and to supervise the Daily Show. New property can choose not to renew Stewart, call it a cost -saving movement and to prevent him from firing him.
