LOS ANGELES (AP) -De Los Angeles Dodgers donated $ 1 million to help families affected by two weeks of immigration -raids in South California.
The defensive World Series champion Dodgers also said on Friday that they are planning to form his partnerships with the California Community Foundation, the Los Angeles County Federation of Labor and other organization to continue to help immigrant families.
“What happens in Los Angeles is displayed between thousands and thousands of people, and we have heard the calls to play a leading role on behalf of the affected,” said Dodgers President Stan Kasten. “We believe that by committing resources and taking action, we will continue to support and elevate the communities of Greater Los Angeles.”
The Dodgers announced the steps in a press release of five paragraph that was subtly formulated to prevent potentially inflammatory political conditions, and which stopped an explicit conviction of federal policy. The team only said that financial aid would be offered “for families of immigrants who are affected by recent events in the region.”
“I think it’s great,” said Dodgers -Manager Dave Roberts before his team was confronted with the Washington Nationals. “I am sure the money will be allocated in the right way. I am happy to hear that the Dodgers have done that, and it is certainly the right thing to do.”
The Dodgers were briefly in the center of the opposition of South California against federal immigration policy when The team asked federal agents to leave the stadium site Thursday after they were collected in a parking lot near one of the gates.
Dozens of federal agents with their faces arrived at a lot near the entrance to the stadium of the stadium in SUVs and freight cans. A group of protesters who transport signs against American immigration and the enforcement of customs arrived shortly thereafter and the agents finally left.
Roberts claimed that his players did not extensively discussed the situation in the clubhouse, but some Dodgers have paid attention. Kiké Hernández, a resident of Puerto Rico, The raids on social media sharply criticized the raids Last weekend. Baseball Hall of Famer Jaime JarrÃn, the main sample of the Dodgers’ protagonist from 1959 until his retirement in 2022, also spoke to the federal actions.
Mayor Karen Bass, Los Angeles, praised the Dodgers in the team’s press release.
“I want to thank the Dodgers for leading this action to support Los Angeles’ immigrant community,” said Bass. “These recent weeks, shock waves have been given fear by every neighborhood and have had a direct impact on our economy. My message to all Angelenos is clear: we will stay together at this time and we will not turn our back on each other – that is what this makes the largest city in the world.”
Fans and legislators have called on the Dodgers for a few days to make an unambiguous explanation of opposition against the raids, given their enormous Latino fan base and heavy influence in the region. Other teams in the region have expressed their solidarity with the immigrant community, including Los Angeles FC and Angel City FC.
The American representative Jimmy Gomez, who represents the Los Angeles area, went on social media earlier on Friday to ask the Dodgers.
“In a city where 36% of the residents are immigrants and almost 40% of the Fanbase of the Latino team, nothing is that nothing is disappointing – it is a betrayal and an insult,” Gomez wrote. “Silence is not an option. It’s a choice.”
