Donald Trump has not done interviews with neutral journalists who could challenge him in years. Trump’s favorite venues are cell phone interviews that last a minute or two, or conservative outlets like Fox News and Newsmax.
The Fox News interviews are heavily crafted, usually pre-recorded and edited before airing.
It takes a special level of incompetence to be part of a network that is propagandistic and supportive and botch a softball issue in such a friendly and managed environment.
The issue driving the extraordinary election results that Democrats are dominating, and the Democratic Party’s overall lead over the medium term that has been widening, is the economy. Inflation and rising prices are fueling voter outrage toward this president and his administration.
The White House and his party wanted Trump to talk about affordability. Instead, the president got involved in a war against Iran in the Middle East, abandoning all messages about affordability for the American people.
Fox News’s Sunday Morning Futures aired an interview with Trump in which he was thrown a giant, juicy softball by longtime supporter Maria Bartiromo.
Bartiromo asked Trump: “So do you believe the price of oil and gas will be lower before the midterm elections?”
This should have been an easy question, but somehow Trump turned it into a gift to the Democrats.
