Rep. Maria Salazar continues to insist that her DIGNIDAD bill is not an amnesty; that it merely confers “dignity” on illegal immigrants who, in the long run, adhere to the new rules she wrote. Mierda. Her bill is a backdoor to citizenship for millions of people who broke our laws to get here. Congress should abolish it outright, and every Republican co-sponsor should take their name off and apologize to their constituents.

To demonstrate how ridiculous her bill is, let’s apply it to the “Father of Maryland,” Kilmar Abrego Garcia. He is the illegal alien from El Salvador who came here in 2011 when he was 16. Police have linked him to MS-13. His wife accused him of hitting her. He was caught on a police bodycam transporting other illegal immigrants from Texas to Maryland. But under Salazar’s bill, he checks every box for the “Dreamer” track that leads straight to a green card and then to citizenship. A future Democratic administration could simply process the paperwork.
According to the bill, he is eligible for citizenship because he entered the country as a minor 15 years ago. It doesn’t matter that he left and was removed; he is granted an exception to the requirement of continuous attendance. You would think his ties to MS-13 would disqualify him, and the bill says gang members are disqualified if they “voluntarily participated in crimes committed by a criminal street gang.” But turn the page and Salazar’s bill quietly undermines the rule: Federal authorities would be explicitly prohibited from using state or federal gang databases to prove someone is a gang member. No allegations from FBI gang files. No data from the gang task force. Nothing. They would apparently require a full criminal conviction for gang activity – which would already make the person inadmissible on common misdemeanor charges. It’s the kind of provision that makes you wonder if Maria Salazar thinks we’re all stupid.
Domestic violence? The bill does not merely count allegations or even police reports. It requires a conviction, which does not exist in Abrego Garcia’s case. And even then, Abrego Garcia could claim he himself was a victim of domestic violence, sexual assault or human trafficking and get a waiver. Human smuggling? The Secretary of Homeland Security could choose to waive that disqualification for “humanitarian purposes, family unity, or because the waiver is otherwise in the public interest.” That’s a loophole as big as the van Abrego Garcia used to transport migrants.

Furthermore, all he has to do is enroll in some “educational program” that will help him obtain a GED or a technical credential. After completing a work or education requirement for several years, he would qualify for lawful permanent residence. From there it’s a smooth ride to citizenship. Tell me again why this isn’t an amnesty.
And the case of Abrego Garcia is just one example of how terrible the act would be; it’s even worse when you look at the scale. Salazar’s DIGNITY program would provide deferred action and work permits to millions more who have been here since late 2020, complete with a path to renewable “Dignity Status.”

This is the exact opposite of what voters demanded in 2024. Americans elected a Republican Congress and a president who promised mass deportations. Instead, some Republicans are inexplicably backing a bill from a Florida congressman that would let wife-beating MS-13 employees stay and eventually vote. The co-sponsors, especially those in safe red neighborhoods who should know better, need to recognize this. Withdraw your support. Kill the bill. Don’t let it hit the floor.

The rule of law is not optional. We already have a legal immigration system. People wait years, pay thousands and follow the rules. Granting the same benefits to people who have crossed the line, joined gangs, beat their spouses, or trafficked others is a middle finger to every American who obeys the law and to every legal immigrant who has done it the right way.
There is no enactment of this bill. It must die. Every Republican co-sponsor should publicly withdraw their support today. If they don’t, primary voters will have to vote them out in 2026. The American people did not send them to Washington to vote for amnesty. They have to remember that.
