California Governor Gavin Newsom on Sunday tore into President Donald Trump’s expensive foreshadowing.
Following a HuffPost report that Trump’s golfing has netted taxpayers more than $100 million in his second term, the potential Democratic presidential nominee has brushed himself off through his press team.
“$100 million – not spent on food assistance, health care, housing or veterans. Just play golf!” the team wrote.

Trump is on track to spend $300 million on his pastime by the end of his term. According to research published Saturday by HuffPost reporter SV Date, he spent more than 25% of his days golfing the second time around.
“At a time when gas prices are rising and Americans across the country are in the midst of a worsening affordability crisis, the president has burned more than $100 million in taxpayer dollars to make promotional appearances at his golf courses and to socialize with millionaires and billionaires,” Jordan Libowitz of the Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington told HuffPost in the article. “If his goal were to help struggling Americans, one thing he could try is stop spending their money on his golf courses.”
The optics of the president so often partaking in one of his favorite pastimes during his now months-long war against Iran don’t have played well in the eyes from critics or.
“I remember Bush 43 quitting golf during the Gulf War out of respect for the sons who came home in boxes,” says sports personality Rick Reilly. wrote on X earlier this month. “Meanwhile, Trump starts a war and then goes around in his golf cart throwing his ball out of bunkers. What a soulless little punk he is.”
Reilly, who wrote the book “Commander in deception: How Golf Explores Trump,” has said that Trump cheats on the course “like a mafia accountant” and that club championships, in his view, are as “fake as Velveeta cheese.”
