European tensions are resurfacing as questions about burden-sharing in global conflicts mount, with former House Speaker Newt Gingrich arguing that long-standing imbalances between the US and its allies are becoming increasingly difficult to ignore.
O’Leary Ventures Chairman Kevin O’Leary discusses the market impact of the Iran War, the collectibles market and more on ‘The Claman Countdown’.
Gingrich pointed to what he described as a fundamental gap in expectations, saying Europe has become dependent on American leadership for decades.
“The fact that we protected Europe from liberation after World War II. We protected it throughout the Cold War. We are still Europe’s primary protectors. They have to learn to do their fair share,” Gingrich said.

As pressure mounts around key global shipping lanes, including the Strait of Hormuz, Gingrich suggested that the burden of maintaining stability remains largely on U.S. shoulders.
Sen. Ashley Moody, R-Fla., joins “Mornings with Maria” to address a potential $200 billion Iran defense package, rising tensions in the Middle East and a heated clash in the Senate over DHS leadership.
“It may take a substantial campaign, but I think within two or three weeks, if we focus on that, we can break the Iranian efforts to close the Strait,” Gingrich said.
He framed the issue as part of a broader philosophical divide, arguing that the US is focused on innovation and forward momentum, while Europe relies more heavily on regulation.

“We think you can get to the future through innovation. They think you can hide from the future through regulation. It doesn’t work,” Gingrich said.
Despite calls for stronger allied coordination, Gingrich suggested that Europe’s military limitations meant its role would likely remain secondary.
CHINESE MISSILES TARGETING US NAVY COULD CAUSE AN ‘OVERNIGHT’ WARSHIFT, EXPERT WARNS
“It would be nice if they helped a little. It would make people feel better if they helped a little,” he said.
U.S. Energy Secretary Chris Wright joins ‘Mornings with Maria’ to discuss rising oil prices, Iranian attacks in the Gulf and how the U.S. can release Iranian oil to stabilize global markets.
Still, he emphasized that the outcome of ongoing conflicts will ultimately depend on the strength of the US and its allies, not on symbolic contributions.
“Ultimately, it’s the American-Israeli coalition that’s going to win this battle. … Having one ship from France or one ship from Britain is not a very big contribution. … The truth is, if you look at the British Navy right now, it’s so underfunded that they can’t do much. They just don’t have the capacity,” Gingrich concluded.
