One person died Wednesday when a cable car cabin fell and crashed on a snowy mountainside at a Swiss ski resort.
The fatal incident happened around 11 a.m. local time in the Engelberg ski resort in central Switzerland, authorities said.

“A cabin of the gondola lift ‘Titlis “A person who was in the cabin at the time of the accident suffered fatal injuries.”
The person was identified as a 61-year-old woman. Her exact cause of death has not been released.
Investigators from various agencies investigated how the accident could have happened.

“It is also important for us that the incident is investigated down to the second. We will provide all data without gaps,” Norbert Patt, CEO of Titlis Cable Cars, said at a press conference, the Can of newspaper reported. “It is an extraordinary event. Gondolas should not crash,” he added.
Patt said there was a breeze at the time the gondola fell, but could not say how strong the wind was.
Several schoolchildren attending a ski camp witnessed the accident.

“I was really shocked. We were afraid to go down again with the gondola,” a 14-year-old girl told the news channel.
