The Trump administration still refuses to look the American people in the eye tell them the truth about the war in Iran. The government continues to view the war with optimism, claiming that gas prices will drop within a few weeks and the war will end.
It is important for America that those who have experienced war in the Middle East speak out and make clear judgments.
In addition to being a veteran and former Secretary of Transportation, Pete Buttigieg is also a former and possibly future presidential candidate.
On Sunday, Buttigieg discussed Trump’s Iran war in no uncertain terms.
What I’m concerned about isn’t the soldiers and the people who serve. What worries me is their political leadership, like Pete Hegseth and Donald Trump.
We lived through a war sold to us under false pretenses when I was younger. This war was not sold under any pretext. The president just went ahead and did it.
This is the biggest thing that hasn’t changed since the war in Afghanistan or the war in Iraq. The biggest thing that hasn’t changed is who pays the price. We have now seen thirteen American soldiers killed. And as you prepare to go into battle, the thing you think about, the thing you fear most, is that your family will be the ones knocking on the door.
More than a dozen American families have now knocked on the door. And the president has basically assured us that there will be more where that came from. And while they pay the ultimate price, every American pays some price. Right now, mortgage rates have risen as a result of this war.
Food will become more expensive because of this war. And of course the price of gas we pay at the pump is more expensive because of this war.
Buttigieg stopped short of telling America that we are being sold a war without pretext.
He called out Trump for using the bodies of the fallen to make money.
