The biggest sign that Trump’s war with Iran is not going well is that the administration still cannot provide a consistent reason for why the war is happening.
Senators have now had two classified briefings, which are two more speeches Donald Trump has given to the American people about the war.
After emerging from the latest classified briefing, Senator Richard Blumenthal (D-CT) warned that Trump appears to be moving toward using American boots on the ground in Iran.
Blumenthal said:
I came away from this briefing as dissatisfied and, frankly, angry as I have come out of every previous briefing in my fifteen years in the Senate. I am left with more questions than answers, especially about the costs of the war. My questions. Are unanswered and I will demand answers because the American people deserve to know.
And I think what I’m most concerned about is the threat to American lives from the possible deployment of our sons and daughters on the ground in Iran. It looks like we’re on a path. Towards deploying US troops on the ground in Iran to achieve one of the potential objectives here. And there is also, as troubling as anything else, the specter that active Russian assistance to Iran is endangering American lives.
Literally, Russia seems to be actively and intensively helping our enemy with intelligence and perhaps other means, and China could also help Iran. So the American people deserve to know much more than this administration has told them about the costs of the war, the danger to our sons and daughters in uniform, and the potential for further escalation and expansion of this war. A war of choice created by this president, not chosen by the American people, with potentially enormous consequences for American lives.

Senator Blumenthal was angry, but his colleague, Senator Chris Murphy (D-CT) was even more direct.
