President Donald Trump will speak about affordability and gas prices during a cabinet meeting on Tuesday.
While Americans travel to spend the holidays with loved ones, lower and more stable gas prices will be an early Christmas present after years of sticker shock.
GasBuddy projects the national average gas price Christmas Day will hover around $2.79 per gallon, compared to $3 a year ago, saving motorists more than half a billion dollars during the holiday week.
The projected price for 2025 puts Christmas gas costs at about the same level as before the COVID-19 pandemic rocked energy markets.
TRUMP’S ENERGY AGENDA DELIVERS THE LOWEST HOLIDAY GAS PRICES IN HALF A DECADE
“Providing there are no surprises, holiday travelers should see pump prices slightly lower than last Christmas,” said Patrick De Haan, head of petroleum analysis at GasBuddy.
“We are also seeing encouraging early trends as we prepare to publish our Fuel Outlook 2026 in January, with signs that lower prices could continue next year,” he added.
Meanwhile, AAA expects nearly 122.4 million Americans will travel at least 50 miles from home during the holidays, 2.7 million more than last year.

About 109.5 million Americans are expected to take road trips by the end of the year, a 2% increase from 2024, as affordability and convenience remain the preferred option for nearly 90% of leisure travelers.
The revelation comes as the Trump administration continues to push for energy dominance, a key pillar of the president Donald Trump’s economic and national security agenda.
