For years, Democrats assured us that expanding government programs was an act of moral heroism—that the only thing standing between America and utopia was more taxpayer money flowing through more “community-oriented” nonprofits that embraced “equality-oriented” missions.
Then Minnesota happened, exposing a truth the radical left will never admit: the system isn’t broken. This is exactly how it is designed to work.
More than 70 people connected to the Minnesota nonprofit Feeding Our Future are facing federal charges in connection with the nation’s largest COVID pandemic fraud scandal. It was primarily Somali-American defendants who allegedly stole money intended for low-income children by submitting forged invoices, false meal counts and fabricated schedules. The organizations billed the government for tens of millions of unserved meals, using the stolen money for luxury cars, beachfront properties and homes.
It’s breathtaking, but it’s not surprising. And it happened because Democrats built a system practically designed for abuse by the nonprofit industrial complex. Here are the five reasons why this fraud was so easy to commit – and why the same conditions exist in states across the country.
WALZ BEARS ‘Full Responsibility’ for $1 Billion Fraud Scandal, DECLARES GOP CHALLENGER DEMUTH
1. The Democrats built programs with virtually no guardrails – by design
It’s easy to blame “COVID chaos” for what unfolded in Minnesota, but the fraud was not subtle. COVID-19 simply provided the political cover to dump hundreds of millions of dollars into a broken system with little oversight.
According to the DOJ indictments, the perpetrators’ lies were ridiculous. One defendant, Abdirashid Dool, claimed its Pelican Rapids facility served 6,000 meals a day, seven days a week. The entire population, children and adults, of Pelican Rapids is less than 2,500. Another network of sites, Empire Cuisine, fraudulent earned more than $47 million.
WHAT TO KNOW ABOUT MINNESOTA’S ‘FEEDING OUR FUTURE’ FRAUD AT THE CENTER OF TRUMP’S LAST CRACKDOWN
This level of cartoonish fraud was only possible because government agencies approved the refunds. The priority was not accuracy, but speed and political optics. The moment a program is linked to a specific ‘vulnerable’ community, the Democrats in power lose the nerve for a real audit, and fear a PC response rather than the loss of taxpayer money. They prioritized the appearance of service over the actual delivery of food, creating an oversight-free slush fund.
2. Ideology blinded the Democratic leadership to obvious fraud
This scandal spread as the perpetrators claimed to serve a marginalized refugee community. In the modern Democratic Party, that immediately grants immunity from scrutiny.
DR. OZ WARNS WALZ TO ADDRESS ALLEGED SOMALIA MEDICAID FRAUD OR LOSE FEDERAL FUNDING: ‘WE WILL STOP PAYING’
Minnesota officials were accused of racism when they question the patently false claims. Proponents of Feeding Our Future recognized this early on and used it as a shield, accusing officials of discrimination whenever anyone asked why the numbers were wrong.
MINNESOTA GOVERNMENT EMPLOYEES ACCUSE WALZ OF ‘MASSIVE FRAUD’ AGAINST MOVEMENTS AGAINST SOMALIA COMMUNITY
This ideological paralysis is not unique to Minnesota. Across the country, anything labeled ‘equality’, ‘community-oriented’ or ‘culture-specific’ is passed around without batting an eyelid. The result? Truly vulnerable communities get nothing, while politically connected insiders make off with millions.
3. The ‘non-profit Industrial Complex’ and the network of friends
This scandal spread as the perpetrators claimed to serve the state’s vast Somali refugee community. In the modern Democratic Party, that immediately grants immunity from scrutiny.
Feeding Our Future was a classic brokering, received enormous administrative costs – more than $18 million – for sponsoring the fraudulent meal sites. They used this position to solicit direct bribes, often disguised as “consulting fees,” from the groups they were tasked with overseeing. The criminals then set up dozens of shell companies and fake nonprofits just to register, receive federal money, and quickly launder the proceeds.
MINNESOTA TAX DOLLARS GIVEN TO AL-SHABAAB TERROR GROUP, MOVES REPORT
This complex, cozy network is the lifeblood of modern democratic politics: You rely on politically friendly nonprofit groups to provide services and ultimately campaign support, creating a self-sustaining system that actively resists external controls.
We see the same pattern everywhere: Oregon was forced to end Measure 110 drug treatment subsidies due to misuse of funds, and Washington state was hit for 86 issues against nearly a dozen government agencies for failing to comply with federal grant rules or fully account for expenditures. The contracts for migrant shelters in New York were criticized because you are ripe for abuse.
4. No one in government pays a price for failure, so the failure never ends
Despite hundreds of millions in stolen money, not a single high-ranking Minnesota official has resigned. In fact, Minnesota Democrats have spent more time downplaying or deflecting the scandal than acknowledging their role in enabling it.

FEDERAL PROBE TARGETS ALLEGED MINNESOTA SOMALIA FRAUD ‘NETWORK’ AS COVID-AID CRIME REMAINS CONTINUING
Gov. Tim Walz, whose administration has failed to detect or stop the massive fraud, is now talking tough about holding scammers accountable and then immediately attacking President Donald Trump for calling Somali fraudsters “trash” and positioning himself as a defender of the Somali community. Walz and his allies act indignantly so they can claim the moral high ground, yet these are the same people who have spent the past six years labeling white Americans as racists and blaming them for a so-called “white supremacy culture” that conveniently justified the racially selective social justice programs that are now being exposed as vehicles for fraud.
EMMER SLAMS WALZ, DEMANDS LIABILITY OVER ALLEGED BREAKDOWN RELATED TO MINNESOTA FRAUD
This lack of accountability is standard practice. California lost more than $20 billion in fraudulent unemployment claims, including for death row inmates. No major political figures suffered the consequences. When the government rewards incompetence and punishes no one, incompetence becomes standard operating procedure.

5. Democrats refuse to admit that big government is failing, so fraud is denied, minimized, or politically reframed
Democrats view big government as infallible. If the system is failing, it must be because critics are racist, or because Republicans are “politicizing” it, or because journalists are overhyping it. It can never be that the programs themselves are ripe for corruption. So the cycle repeats itself – with bigger budgets and even less responsibility.

The Feeding Our Future scandal is being sold as an embarrassment in Minnesota. It’s much bigger than that. It’s a warning of what happens when you combine ideological blinders, political patronage, excessive government programs and zero accountability.
Minnesota just got caught. Other states are simply waiting their turn.
