HGTV star Genevieve Gorder is selling her old house New York City.
The Manhattan duplex co-op is on the market for $4.3 million in partnership with brokers Smitha Ramchandani and Christopher Stokes Moseley of Christie’s International Real Estate Group.
The 2014 TV series “Genevieve’s Renovation” showed Gorder’s process, transforming two adjacent units into one four-bedroom house, where she lived with her daughter Bebelle.
Originally built in the 1850s, the 2,500-square-foot home has undergone many renovations, but Gorder took care to preserve some elements of the home’s history.

“I wanted everything attached to the walls to reference the age of the house,” Gorder said Mansion Global. “I’m a conservationist at heart, but I don’t want to live like a lady in the 1860s.”
Because the house consists of two units, it has two terraces at both the front and the back of the house. In addition to the outdoor areas, the property offers access to a private park available to residents of the block.

Gorder purchased one of the units in 2004 and the other in 2011, according to Mansion Global.
Gorder became a household name in 2000 as one of the original designers of the TLC show “Trading Spaces”, and is often referred to as one of the key figures responsible for popularizing design television.

After the show ended in 2007, she joined the HGTV family in 2009 with the design show “Dear Genevieve” and also as a judge on “HGTV Design Star.” She most recently returned for the reboot of ‘Trading Spaces’ and the series ‘At Home with Genevieve’ in 2018.

“I like to use this analogy: When you’re on a plane, they say you put on your oxygen mask first so you can help everyone else,” she said. “It’s normal for us as women to feel like we always have to take care of others. But it’s just as important to take care of ourselves and have that one special place where you can go and physically restore yourself. Just a corner with little details that count and make those stubby toes of life that much better.”
She went on to explain that the space “doesn’t have to be big,” but just “needs to be somewhere where you can find physical separation from things that make you anxious or stressed and where you can find peace.”

When it comes down to it creating these spacesGorder said it’s important to think about what it takes to feel comfortable: “Part of feeling good and relaxed is also making sure that everything you need to feel comfortable is close by.”
“So these special areas also include food,” she explained. “Like having a favorite snack on hand, wine or something comforting. I use Fiber One Bars because they are satisfying. But stick to things that make you feel cared for.”
