Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov suggested that Moscow could reject the White House’s latest peace deal with Ukraine if it does not uphold the “spirit and letter” of the agreements reached during the Alaska summit between President Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin in August.
said Lavrov at a press conference On Tuesday, Russia said it was awaiting an updated version of the Trump administration’s latest peace plan aimed at ending the nearly four-year war.
He warned that if the terms of the “important agreements” were “extinguished”, the situation would become “fundamentally different”.
Russia has maintained its maximalist demands during the negotiations, insisting that Ukraine be excluded from joining NATO and give up the rest of the Donbas as part of a peace deal.

“The United States has really shot itself in the foot by switching strategies. One month you’re trying to put pressure on the Russians and say they’re the obstacle to peace. The next minute you’re trying to, you know, force their terms on Kiev,” Hardie said.
“What we really need is continued military support for Ukraine and economic pressure on Russia, and Putin must realize that neither the Ukrainian military nor Western, and especially American, resolve will waver.”

Former CIA station chief Dan Hoffman told The Brian Kilmeade Show on Tuesday that he remains skeptical about ending the war, arguing that the United States does not have the power to force Moscow to halt its invasion.

“Vladimir Putin, his strategic goal has always been to overthrow the democratically elected government of Ukraine. He will engage in negotiations, but he is doing so to ensure that he asserts Russia’s primacy in his self-proclaimed sphere of influence,” Hoffman said. “I just don’t see any evidence that Russia will pause its brutal attacks on Ukraine.”

US Army Secretary Dan Driscoll met with Russian officials in Abu Dhabi on Monday and Tuesday to discuss the framework for a peace deal with Ukraine. The US official said a Ukrainian delegation was also in Abu Dhabi and in contact with Driscoll and his team.
