Billionaire Elon Musk warned in an interview that the policies of New York mayoral candidate Zohran Mamdani, a democratic socialist, would cause a major decline in living standards.
Musk, the CEO of Tesla and SpaceX, appeared on “The Joe Rogan Experience” and acknowledged that Mamdani is the front-runner in the mayoral race but said his agenda, if implemented, would harm New Yorkers’ quality of life.
“Mamdani is a charismatic con artist,” Musk said. “I mean, you’ve got to hand it to him, he can light up a stage, but he’s just been a hustler all his life.”
“If Mamdani’s policies are implemented, especially on a large scale, it would mean a catastrophic decline in living standards, not just for the wealthy, but for everyone. As has been the case with every socialist experiment,” Musk added.

Mamdani, who currently serves in the New York State Assembly, has campaigned for the implementation of a series of socialist policies if he wins the election. Mayoral race in New York City.
His platform calls for raising the minimum wage in New York City to $30 an hour by 2030, along with raising the corporate tax rate to match New Jersey’s 11.5% rate. Mamdani has also called abolishing bus fares and creating a universal childcare policy.

He has proposed building 200,000 new units of “permanently affordable, union-built, rent-stabilized housing” over the next decade, while also immediately freezing rents for tenants in rent-stabilized units.
Mamdani’s platform also includes the creation of supermarkets of the city that would operate on a rent-free basis with no property taxes, with the stores buying and selling goods at “wholesale prices” to give consumers a “public option” in the supermarket market.

“I’ve said time and time again that I believe these are the simplest ways we can actually fund universal child care, making busing fast and free. New Jersey Corporate Tax of 11.5%,” Mamdani said. “If there are other ways to raise this money to fund this agenda, then the most important thing is that we fund the agenda.”
He also emphasized the need to make cuts to other parts of the city budget to fund his priorities.

“I don’t think we should cut spending, I’ve talked about raising taxes on the wealthiest. And honestly, this is a problem that we have here in New York City, and frankly across the country. When I talked to Trump voters here in New York City – Hillside Avenue in Queens, Fordham Road in the Bronx – they told me it was the cost of living that drove them to vote for Donald Trump,” Mamdani said.
