The difference between John Thune and Mitch McConnell as Senate Maternity Leader is that McConnell refuses to sell the independence of the Senate to Trump. Thune left the status of the Senate as part of an equal branch of the government.
Republicans continue to try to blame the Democrats for the government’s closure when the poll shows after Poll that their strategy does not work, but because this is what Trump said they do, the Republicans continue to fail.
The members of the Trump party in the house and the Senate also look completely incompetent.
Majority leader Thune went on the Futures of Fox News and presented a very strange perspective on the government’s closure.
Thune said:
There are reasonable Democrats who have conversations with Republicans, and I hope this will produce some results. At the end of the day, all these things they want to do and what we are talking about, we are happy to have a conversation about, but that cannot happen with the government’s closure.
So it is open the government, or else I think that is really the choice that is now for him.

The problem with Thune’s position is that it is total nonsense.
Senator Thune could announce today that he will be sitting in the Senate tomorrow to vote to change the rules to require 51 votes to pass the house CR.
Thune can do that, and he could do it very easily because Republicans have total control over the federal government.
This is a republican closure.
Republicans want to increase premiums for health insurance policies and throw away people from their health care. That is the point of the closure, so blaming Democrats does not fool many people.
Trump has not only made the closure of the government weak and weak, but it has also made republican congression leadership in the same way.
Outside Maga, nobody buys what Thune sells, as Trump and his party have failed at the most elementary element of rule.
