Baseball history has just been made by the Cleveland Guardians. The Detroit Tigers (87-75) led the Guardians (88-74) against 9.5 games on 10 September with 16 more games to play (Cleveland had 17), but finished 3-13, while Cleveland went 14-3.
At one point in July, the guards were 15.5 games behind the Tigers, making the Cleveland comeback the largest since the division game in 1969 came to MLB. The earlier record was the comeback of the 15 games by the Yankees to follow the Eastern Division of the American League in 1978 in 1978 in 1978. It was a remarkable September for the Guardians, really unique in its kind. (And for the Tigers, although of exactly the opposite species.)
Because the baseball gods have a sense of humor, Cleveland will organize Detroit in a Best of Three Games series that starts today after 1 p.m. et. The second game (and a third party, if necessary, starts at the same time and in the same place.)
Tigers beat the play-off berth after collapsing the late season, but Al Central Crown is still undecided
So yes, we Guardians fans are quite excited. I have many friends who adjust me by calling the Guardians by their old name, “The Indians” and because of their old nickname, the tribe – and my muscle memory sometimes takes over and I also use the old name and nickname.
But I cheer for clubs, not nicknames. This also applies to the vast majority of fans of Cleveland. Only away in the responses. I don’t care. The Guardians are still organizing the Tigers, from today a bit after 1 hour and today from Progressive Field on the corner of Carnegie and Ontario in Cleveland. Tom Hamilton (“Hammy”) will call the games and he is the best in the industry. Terry Pluto will write about the games together with Paul Hoynes and Joe Noga and maybe Jimmy Watkins on Cleveland.com. Noordoost -Ohio takes its professional clubs very seriously, so the local news stores spend resources on serving the fan base and the huge diaspora of Cleveland fans keeping platforms up and not because of political controversies in Cuyahoga County.
A aside: I met my wife in the fall of 1978 in a fundraising for the then mayor of San Diego Pete Wilson. Since then, she has passed Cleveland Browns, Cleveland Cavaliers and Cleveland Indians/Guardians Seasons for decades. There has been a total of one championship in those years (the cavs won a stunning upset about the Golden State Warriors in 2016), so sports widows and widowers of the last half century, Buckle Up. Your partner is already going crazy this week. And delete yourself. You know the dark clouds descend and they last a few days. But maybe not this fall!
Cleveland did not win any world series in my life and does the latter in 1948. They came close in 1995, 1997 and 2016, but Close does not bring you a ring. (They also won it all in 1920 and lost it in 1954, but because I didn’t have to look at the collapse of 1954, I am just as indifferent to the triumphs of 1920 and 1948.)
The browns have never been to a super bowl. They last won the NFL championship in 1964. The cavs are pretty good now, but they have never won it all without LeBron James. So there are skeptics. But it may be two championships in the cycle. (The browns are not in hunting without a wonderful rise of Rookie QBS Dillon Gabriel or Shedeur Sanders.)

Ohio State University has offered some lighting and claims national championships in the University Football in 1968, 1970, 2002, 2014 and the most recent after the regular season 2024, with the glove of four Playoff competitions for the first time in the history of the sport. They could even repeat.
But professional sports in Cleveland? It has been a desert with one oasis for 50 years.

That is a long way to explain that this week (and perhaps longer) mood swings can be among your colleagues if the rungers’ run continues. You may not know that they are from Ohio, although we usually tell you. And we will tell you this week and then definitely as long as “Guards Ball” will continue.
Cleveland has the best fan base in the country and the longest suffering. So tolerates us in October. We could not completely believe September. But it is a lot of Geloveland this month.
