“He is doing well, he is in a good mood,” Guardians Manager Stephen Vogt told The Wire Service. “He is upright, he is alert.”
The ball was ruled a mistake, but Vogt said Fry took a direct hit.
Fry was beaten on his back by the impact, but never lost consciousness, According to mlb.com. He was transferred from one medical facility to another where he was kept at night for observation.
Skubal, the ruling American League Cy Young winner, looked Rammelaar through the scene on home plate while Fry was treated. He pulled out his hat and glove and rubbed his face.
“It’s really difficult,” said Skubal, per mlb.com. “I have already contacted him. I am sure that his phone will blow up. I just want to make sure that he is good with him. Of course it seemed that he thought it was good to get off the field, and hopefully it stays that way. I sometimes know with those things, they can change, so hopefully it will be good with him.”
The sixth inning unraveled Skubal, who also had a wild throw, a beam and a throw error in which he tried to walk the ball football style to the first baseman, but the ball flew past the right field line.
