If the back-to-school season is, it’s time to start thinking about school lunches. Last year the so -called “Maha Moms” who broke for President Donald Trump, and they were still worried that their children get junk food in schools. Under the US Department of Agriculture (USDA) are approved food, shocking, doritos, cheetos and cups of a single-service format of happy charms.
While policymakers revise the food guidelines of the country for Americans (DGA) that encourage school lunch policy, there are commonsense steps that parents can take to set up their children for success.
There are five here.

Don’t forget breakfast
Fasting by breakfast can be a good idea for adults, but for children it remains a meal to anchor the days. However, grains is not ‘breakfast of champions’. Even “stone oats” are just a bowl of starch that, when eating, turns into sugar.
Back-to-school sadness can also hit parents. Here is how you deal with it
Eggs (cooked every style) are perfect, especially with their price tag that keeps falling. Also don’t worry about cholesterol in the yolks. That myth was refuted more than ten years ago – and at least never apply to children. Entire eggs are much better than protein for building muscles, and eggs are sometimes called “Nature’s multivitamin” because they contain 12 essential vitamins and 14 minerals, as well as choline, an essential nutrient related to cognitive function.
Fill protein
To prevent hunger and to maintain stable energy levels all day, children must give priority to proteins and healthy fats. Meat sticks or a bag of jerky are great options. These are currently the fastest growing snack category in the US, with new options such as “Prime Rib” and “Buffalo.” These are your classic “nutrients” food. Choose that little sugar.
Deli meat and cheese rolls are also many proteins and very filling. Take everything from high-end prosciutto to everyday deliham, add a slice of cheese, roll, secure with a toothpick and you have the American version of some favorite foods of those healthy, long-lived Italians. This is a much better option than carrot and celery sticks, which are usually water and about as filling as a lettuce leaf.

Despite the poor rap of meat, it is a top source of complete protein and can lead to higher figures. One study even showed that children provided a daily meat supplement, better than those who did not have general intelligence tests.
Lay the carbohydrates
To prevent the roller coaster with blood sugar, which shoots after eating carbohydrates before they refund, children must avoid to prevent too much starch and sugars. Blood sugar whiplash not only leads to low energy and whimsical moods, but can also hinder the concentration and – crucial – stimulate the desire for food.
To that end, skip the fruit rolls. Intraïtive, raisins and other dried fruits are also strongly concentrated in sugar and a powerful way to nail blood sugar levels. Fresh fruit is a better option – although it opts for that with lower sugar, such as strawberries or blueberries above options with high sugar such as bananas and watermelons (which are still preferred above fruit roll -ups).

Also stay free from the mueslie bars. Even some popular “nuts” bars can be a surprising amount of sugar, so first check the label. While a Snickers has 28 grams of sugar – have many energy bars or more! Stay with options with low sugar and low carbohydrate.
Cut thin to win
For those who believe that a sandwich is the center of the lunch box, the trick is maximizing the ratio “fill-to-bread”. Choose a thin bread to keep grains low and take a slap on the fillings: slices of roast beef, turkey or ham, with tomatoes, lettuce and a generous amount of mayonnaise or ranch dressing for healthy fats and taste.
It is worth investing in a lunch box “Bento Box” to fill the containers with healthy, home -made options that do not need packaging. For example, over-overs of the dinner (chicken, steak, avocado slices) can double as lunch of the next day. This solution not only avoids ultra-processed ingredients, but also saves time: the ultimate win-win for busy parents.

Reform the food guidelines
Finally, parents must keep the pressure on the Trump administration to implement meaningful reforms in the food guidelines. Together updated every five years by the USDA and the Ministry of Health of Human Services, these are more than suggestions. They rule policy -making around school lunches and are the reason why your children waffles and orange juice are served for breakfast, but will never see a fresh egg.
With almost one in five children now obese, it is clear that the status quo does not work. The Trump government has indicated that a change of natural is imminent. Because of our children, they have to get it done.
